Test Setup

We test 3rd Gen Threadripper CPUs using the Asus ROG Zenith II Extreme, newer AM4 CPUs with Gigabyte's X570 Aorus Master, but original/first-generation Ryzen CPUs are tested on the MSI X470 Gaming Pro Carbon AC since they are incompatible with X570.

For memory, we use 16GB (2 x 8GB) of Corsair 3,466MHz Vengeance Pro RGB DDR4 for all CPUs with a 32GB quad-channel kit going in HEDT motherboards. As of the launch of 3rd Gen Ryzen, we have found this speed to be stable across our entire selection of AM4 CPUs, and it's also the speed we use with all Intel CPUs. We're also using an EK Water Blocks EK-MLC Phoenix 240mm CPU cooler and Nvidia's GeForce RTX 2070 Super Founders Edition.
